The grandson of a Denton County Commissioner has been charged with murder and assault after Lewisville police say he stabbed his grandparents early Monday morning.

The said officers responded to a report of an assault in progress in the 1000 block of Springwood Drive at about 3:53 a.m. Monday morning.
When officers arrived at the home, they found a man and a woman suffering from apparent stab wounds. Both were transported to area hospitals.

The female victim was identified as Bobbie J. Mitchell, Denton County Commissioner for Precinct 3. She was Lewisville's first Black mayor and served on the Lewisville City Council. Commissioner Mitchell's husband, Fred Mitchell, was also stabbed in the attack and was pronounced deceased shortly after 5 a.m.
According to police, Mitchell Blake Reinacher, the grandson of the victims, was arrested at the scene and taken into custody without incident. He booked into the Lewisville Jail and is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. It's unclear if he's obtained an attorney and a bond amount has not yet been set.
Neighbors in the residential neighborhood on the west side of Lewisville said they awoke to numerous emergency vehicles and crime scene tape.

Sharon Leon said Fred Mitchell was a constant presence along their street, often working in his front yard and saying hello to neighbors.
"He spends a lot of time out watering his plants and he has a big smile and says 'hi' every single time that we come out," Leon said, fighting back tears. "I just feel like, why did that happen to that poor guy and her?"
Lewisville Chief of Police Brook Rollins said Monday afternoon that investigators have not yet determined a motive and weren't able to confirm what occurred in the moments leading up to the stabbing.
Rollins said the call to 911 came from inside the family's home and that investigators believed they recovered the murder weapon.
The chief said the investigation into the attack is ongoing.
Lewisville Mayor TJ Gilmore said Monday afternoon that Bobbie Mitchell is expected to make a full recovery but that recovery will take some time.
"There is a long road of recovery. We are getting news that Commissioner Mitchell is recovering and we're pleased on that, but we are saddened, deeply saddened at the loss of her husband, Fred Mitchell," Gilmore said.
"If anybody has ever been at a public event where Bobbie Mitchell has prayed over you, you know that she does an amazing job. Well, now it's time for the community to give back. So any time that you have over the next couple of days or weeks to uplift Bobbie and the family, please do so."
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who appointed Bobbie Mitchell to the , said he and his wife were heartbroken to learn of the attack and thanked first responders for taking quick action.
"Cecilia and I are heartbroken to hear of the passing of Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell’s husband, Fred Mitchell, after they were brutally attacked in their home this morning. I thank the Lewisville Police Department and other first responders for their quick response and for rushing Commissioner Mitchell to the hospital. Cecilia and I pray for Commissioner Mitchell as she recovers from her injuries and for Fred Mitchell's family and loved ones as they mourn his death," Abbott said.
The Denton County website shows Commissioner Mitchell and her husband have two children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Michell Reinacher is Bobbie's daughter's son. Online searches show Reinacher attended Flower Mound High School and played football as a freshman for McMurry University in Abilene in 2019.

On Monday evening, a vigil was held at Westside Baptist Church at 900 Bellaire Boulevard in Lewisville. Dr. Delvin Atchison, a pastor, said healing will take time but will be done together.
