During Obama's childhood in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood, Robinson dedicated much of her time with her two children to laughing at their jokes and listening to their ideas, Obama that aired Wednesday.

The confidence Obama developed as a child helped her navigate challenges as an adult, she added.
